St Leonard's Hospice suffering amid financial struggles across the sector.

The boss of St Leonard’s Hospice has called for more government funding for the sector. Last year, Chief Executive Emma Johnson has said that the 1.2% uplift from the government falls “well short” in light of increased costs, and St Leonard’s faces a £800,000 budget deficit in the next financial year.

27% of the hospice’s total running costs are funded by the government, whilst the remainder comes from the staff and the wider community. The concerns come with the backdrop of the “worst financial results for the hospice sector in around 20 years” according to the Chief Executive of Hospice UK, Toby Porter.
