Angels of the North, RuPaul’s UK Series 5 Drag Superstars are confirmed as York Pride’s 2024 heavenly headliners.

York Pride are excited to announce their headline act ‘Angels of the North’ performing on the main stage at this years event scheduled to be held on Saturday 1st June 2024 at York racecourse. Fresh from the runway of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 5 Drag Superstars Ginger Johnson, Michael Marouli and Tomara Thomas are set to sprinkle plenty of charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent with a heavenly brand new live show fresh from the runway.  

The 3 finalists including winner Ginger Johnson from Country Durham, Michael Marouli from Newcastle Upon Tyne and Tomara Thomas from  Hartlepool are currently rehearsing for the upcoming tour Angels of the North opening in Liverpool in April however have confirmed attendance at  York Pride 2024 with an exclusive York Pride show.  

Each year York Pride celebrates the cities LGBT+ community with a parade and festival which welcomes over 10,000 people. This annual event is the largest one day free festival within the York events calendar delivered by a committee of 20 volunteers.  

Nominated for Event of the Year at the Visit York Tourism awards next month, York Pride each year looks to get bigger and better on the arrival of 3 northern Ru Paul's UK season 5 Drag Queens means 2024 is no exception.  

York Pride Chair Greg Stephenson said: ‘We are beyond excited to have not 1, but 3 northern queens on the main stage at Pride this year. Last yearClare Richards from Steps was a huge hit with attendees at York Pride so we knew we had to go big for 2024! York Pride has become a staple in so many peoples calendar and every year the committee work hard to ensure that it is a day to celebrate diversity and enjoyed by everyone attending   the festival.’  

York Pride will be held on Saturday 1st June 2024 at York Racecourse. The popular pride parade to the Knavesmire will also be returning for 2024 leaving York Minster at noon.

York Pride

York Pride is North Yorkshire’s largest LGBT+ annual celebration. Managed by a team of dedicated volunteers the registered charity delivers an annual festival in York which is attended by over 10,000 people.

Queens

Ginger Johnson is an award-winning artist, writer, powerhouse drag performer and the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series 5.

Originally from the north east of England, Johnson cut her teeth on the alt-drag and cabaret scenes of East London, where her unique blend of camp laughs and bareknuckle confessional earned her a reputation for being a risk-taking performer with a big heart and an even bigger mouth.  

Since then, Johnson has become a fixture of the UK performance scene, playing to audiences including Southbank Centre, The Roundhouse, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Bristol Old Vic, Soho Theatre, The Hackney Empire and just about every major festival stage you can think of. 

Best known for her barnstorming theatrics and a sweet tooth for the ridiculous, Johnson is a captivating performer with one high heel firmly planted in the rich history of drag and the other heading off on its latest, ludicrous adventure.

Michael Marouli

Michael Marouli is an all round seasoned performer, with over 15 years experience in the world of Drag.
A host, comedian, actor, dancer, singer, lip syncer and show producer, Michael has performed to audiences of thousands all over the world.
He started his career as a cabaret performer in the Canary Islands, before managing and producing one of the biggest drag shows in Spain.
This led to hosting and performing on main stage pride events all over Europe and appearing on numerous TV shows.
Michael has won multiple awards including 3 times “Artist Of the Year” and twice “Host Of Year”.
A regular on the London cabaret scene, Michael is a high energy performer and a skilled MC and can adapt his show to suit any requirement.
Most recently he competed on Rupaul's Drag race UK season 5, winning 3 challenges and finishing in second place as the runner up and a huge fan favourite amongst the public.
Since the show he has starred in a west end Panto, announced a UK and Australian headline tour with the Angels Of The North and done social media campaigns with MAC Cosmetics and Strictly Come Dancing.

Tomara Thomas

Tomara Thomas, the femme fatale of RuPaul's Drag UK Season 5. 

From Hartlepool to London, this Angel of the North has been seen on TV screens across the UK from Drag Race Main stage to the main stage of Eurovision 2023. 

The triple threat, performer, model and personality has sold out clubs and concert halls across the UK and Europe and now takes on a further international stage in 2024.
