Everyone at City of York Council would like to express our sincere condolences following the passing of Andrew Digwood.

We are deeply saddened to hear this news – his kind nature, counsel, humour, and dedication to York will be a huge loss.

Andrew was held in the highest regard by many people in the city and by all those who spent time with him. Having served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, a Council Climate Commissioner and Under-Sherriff in last year’s civic party, his contribution and service to York set an example that will continue to be an inspiration to us all.

He also made a hugely significant contribution to York’s Covid response and supported many businesses through the pandemic and lockdowns. He was instrumental in ensuring the Council’s actions were appropriate and effective.

We send our deepest sympathy to Andrew Digwood’s family and hold them in our thoughts.

  •  special service for Andrew Digwood will take place at York Minster on Thursday 24 November, at 10.30am.
