Each year Braithwaite Gallery choose a charity to support, and with the help of their amazing artists and customers to try and make a difference for others. For the next year, their chosen charity is PAPYRUS, a charity focused on the Prevention of Young Suicide.

This charity has a special significance for the owners of the Gallery, Anne and Mark, as they lost their son Jake Braithwaite to suicide in 2018, aged just 20.

Jake went to Joseph Rowntree School, York College, and was an apprentice welder at the amazing Stage One in Tockwith.

The photo of Jake and with his mother Anne, was taken on a trip to London for his Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award presentation. Six months later "we lost him forever."

Their last fundraiser, for Mind, raised more than £5000 through the generosity of Braithwaite's lovely customers, and the talent of artist Sam Toft, one of Britain’s most loved artists.

Anne said "Artist Sam Toft has once again generously sent us some very special artwork for our charity fundraiser. Over the years Sam's generosity with time and talent has raised many thousands of pounds for charitable causes."

Sam has created a picture called Time to Make Memories, and has supplied four prints (there are only 8 prints in total of this picture) with lots of little original drawings - artist’s remarques - in the white border, so each is truly unique.  Editions 2, 3 and 4 for the charity have already been sold raising nearly £1000 on their Just Giving page.  The gallery are now raffling mounted edition ONE for £10 a ticket in aid of PAPYRUS.

Tickets can be bought in person from the gallery or on their website.

Donations can also be made directly via the  Just Giving page for anyone not wishing to participate in the raffle.

No family should have to experience loss in this most heartbreaking way. Each donation to PAPYRUS can fund a call to their Hope Line - maybe we can give a family another day, and another day, and another day, with their loved one.

PAPYRUS said: "Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK. We believe many young suicides can be prevented. Through fundraising you are raising vital awareness of PAPYRUS and spreading our message of hope."
