The Flamborough Fire Festival Team are delighted to say that the 2022 Fire Festival was the most successful event ever staged with over 2,500 visitors attending with almost £30,000 raised!

The Team’s months of hard work and preparation paid off as the village was full of Vikings and Festival visitors coming from as far away as; Scotland, Wales, London, Europe, New Zealand, Hong Kong, USA and across the whole of England!

The Festival also received some of the largest media coverage ever from both local, national and international press with media coverage by; BuzzFeed (a global, New York based, media and news company), BBC, Getty Images, The Press Association, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, Yorkshire Post, The Metro, Hull Daily Mail, Bridlington Free Press, Dalesman, Mumbler, and Bridlington Echo.  Radio coverage came from BBC Humberside Radio, Yorkshire Radio Network, Seaside FM, West Hull FM, Beverley FM and many other stations.

The event also featured on a number of event websites such as; Visit Hull and East Riding, Visit Yorkshire, UK Festivals Guide, Visit York, Go Yorkshire, and many more such visitor attraction sites.

Social media coverage of the Festival went absolutely wild this year with Festival fans sharing links and posts from all over the world especially those who hold a great interest in Viking history and Flamborough’s unique Viking heritage!

The Festival Organiser, Jane Emmerson, said;

“The 2022 Flamborough Fire Festival was absolutely amazing this time with huge publicity from around the world with Flamborough featuring as the BuzzFeed’s forth most popular place to visit on New Year’s Eve after Madrid, Paris, Istanbul and then Flamborough! The BBC feed also rated Flamborough as their second most popular New Year’s Eve Festival after Edinburgh!

It is absolutely astounding how the popularity of the Festival has grown with visitors travelling for hundreds of miles to see the Festival and visit Flamborough as the ‘home of the Vikings’!  It is particularly fantastic to know that local accommodation is booked months in advance with local businesses really benefitting from the Festival”

The Team are delighted that the event now promotes so much tourism for Flamborough and East Yorkshire with requests for local accommodation, food and refreshments in big demand.

We understand people are already booking accommodation for this year’s Festival with already high demand for tickets.

The Festival Team are pleased that the event raised almost £30,000 however, would like to point out, that event set up costs have increased significantly, due to inflation and the global economic crisis, with costs such as; insurance, security marshals, and barriers, medical support, security lighting and power, fireworks, fire equipment etc. all increased substantially this year. Nevertheless, the team are delighted with how the event has grown and its amazing success bringing crowds of supporters and Vikings to the village on New Year’s Eve for the annual lighting of the Flamborough Fireballs, Torchlight Procession, Viking Longship Parade and Fireworks with the traditional belief that the fire burns off the spirits of the old year and welcomes in new spirts for the New Year in the village”.

The Festival’s organising team, who are all volunteers will, of course, be meeting to celebrate the success of event in their usual Viking style and also arrange their annual charities presentation evening which will take place later in the year.

The Flamborough Fire Festival Team would like to thank everyone who kindly attended the event on New Year’s Eve. They would particularly like to thank the; East Riding of Yorkshire Council, ESAG, Visit East Yorkshire Tourism, Mr Ryan Linley, Goose Kraken Vikings, Volsung Vikings, Vikings Dark Age Re-enactment Society, all visitors and supporters of the Festival and the residents of Flamborough, for all their kind support.
