BBC RADIO 2’S TONY BLACKBURN, CLASSIC ROCK, YORK GUILDHALL ORCHESTRA AND THE COMMUNITY CAROL CONCERT

New events now on sale at York Barbican

YORK GUILDHALL ORCHESTRA 15/10/2022

The first concert in the orchestra’s 42nd season features a programme of popular music. It will be a delight to welcome local lad Will Clark to perform Vaughan Williams with us; although he has played with the orchestra as a youngster, this will be his first outing as soloist with us.

We are also joined by our old friends, Leeds Festival Chorus in the Lambert and Fauré. The wonderfully rousing Festive Overture is a great way to start any concert – and finishing with a foot-tapping rendition of the superb Danzón No.2 will send everyone skipping home with a smile on their face! YORK COMMUNITY CAROL CONCERT 11/12/2022

Get your Christmas off to a cracking start with this ever-popular festive event. After 64 successful years this long-running community carol concert appeals to all ages and still plays to full houses.

The Musical Director is Mike Pratt and hosting the event will be Rev Andrew Foster and BBC Radio York presenter, Adam Tomlinson.

Join in with all your favourite Christmas carols and songs – whilst also listening to some of our local, very talented choirs and musicians.

Proceeds from the concert will be shared by the Lord Mayor and Sheriff of York’s Christmas Cheer Fund along with Martin House Children’s Hospice (The Press nominated charity).

YORK GUILDHALL ORCHESTRA 11/02/2023

The second concert in this season will see us welcome back Leeds Festival Chorus in this all-Beethoven concert with one of his show-stopping symphonies.  The two overtures will be very familiar to concert goers, and they are great fun to play and to listen to. The Meeresstille und Glückliche Farht is a setting of two poems by the German poet Goethe and translates as Calm sea and prosperous voyage.

From his Oratorio, Christ on the Mount of Olives, the choir will join the orchestra in the Hallelujah Chorus.

THE CLASSIC ROCK SHOW 14/03/2023

The Classic Rock Show is back in the UK in 2023, bigger and even better, and celebrating, once again, the very best of Classic Rock.

Paying tribute to its favourite rock heroes CRS thunders through legendary performances from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, The Who, Eric

Clapton, AC/DC, Queen, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and many more.

Performed with note-for-note precision, bringing the original iconic and era defining recordings back to life on stage, with an amazing sound and light show to match.  Anthem after anthem, riff after riff and solo after solo, culminating in a show-stopping guitar duel that is not to be missed.
