A new £1 million cancer research centre is opening in York. The centre will examine the side effects of cancer treatments for children and aims to find better ways to manage these side effects.

Yorkshire children's cancer charity Candlelighters worked with the University of York to establish the Supportive Care Research Centre.

Director of the new centre Professor Bob Phillips said: “Our research won’t cure cancer, but it will make a bigger difference to more people, faster".
