Tom Genever, Jordan Coulson and Tom Feasby who all live in York will be doing the C2C charity cycle on 5th August to raise funds for their friend Adam Gray who has incurable cancer.

The route will begin in Whitehaven on the west coast and end in Sunderland on the east coast. Aiming to complete the cycle in just two days, over 220km will be cycled through the Lake District and The Pennines, taking on the eyewatering climbs of Hartside and Garrigill.

Tom Genever, told us Adam’s story:

“Adam, 36, originally from York was diagnosed 4 years ago with Neuroendocrine Cancer which is incurable and given months to live. He was a fit, vibrant, healthy young man, a diligent lawyer, a loving husband and an expectant father. His entire life turned upside down. He had too many tumours to count across his liver, lungs and pancreas.

But the road to recovery has been unforgiving. Half his liver was removed in a seven-hour surgery to rid the organ of disease. At times during chemo, he was literally killing himself to try and stay alive. That's the irony of such a cold, cruel medicine. But what stood out most was his discipline. The hours of research into alternative treatments, his unwavering commitment to the strictest diets and a supplement regime that professional athletes couldn't match. Adam didn't even flinch.

After three years of fighting, he was blessed with some great news. The doctors classified him as having no evidence of disease. Not a single tumour could be seen in his body. An outcome that doctors had deemed impossible and one that offered a lease of life beyond anything previously imaginable. It felt like he could live once more.

But on Wednesday, December 21st, four nights before Christmas, his world came crashing down again. Following a routine scan, new tumours were found. Not just one, but ten. He will likely need third-line chemotherapy to treat them. It's not worth reading the statistics on third-line chemo, partly because they are too morbid but mainly because those numbers don't apply to our brother. He is forging his own destiny.

Since then, Adam has had numerous rounds of chemo, radiotherapy as well as major surgery, all of which means he’s still fighting stronger today.

Adam’s ability to continue battling against this disease is no small thanks to the generous donations received via his previous just-giving fundraiser including the amazing supported 24hr charity 6 aside football match.  The money raised so far has helped pay for a mix of alternative treatments and traditional medicine, including radiotherapy treatment in India, and is the reason he is still with us today.

This is where we need your help. His alternative treatment regime must kick on again to give Adam the best shot at the future he deserves. There are other options available as well, including immunotherapy and Alpha-PRRT. But these treatments are costly and not covered by insurance. So we are looking to raise £50,000 to ensure he has every chance of survival.

The money raised from this cycle ride will help fund further treatments and give Adam every opportunity and chance to beat this disease, so please share, like and/or donate if you can afford to.”
