2000 names on petition to axe the new plans for new green bin charge.
With 2000 names already on a petition against the change, Lib Dem councillors are urging Labour to drop plans to introduce an annual charge of £46.50 per bin to empty green bins from April. Labour says the change is necessary since Westminster’s removal of local government funding means the council can no longer afford to run the service for free.
The Lib Dems say they fear the plans could cause an increase in fly tipping and burning of green waste. They say they will present an alternative budget to the Budget Council next month.
