Managing Director of Jorvik Radio, Bill Colman, is set to retire on 30 June 2023 after six years at the station.

Bill was one of the original founding directors of Jorvik Radio when the station was formed in 2017 and it was successful in being awarded a FM licence by OFCOM.

He is proud to have played his part in leading the station over the last six years from the original concept, through go-live in 2019 and establishing Jorvik Radio's unique brand of music that reflects the diverse nature of our great city of York.

Originally, Bill presented a live afternoon show named ‘Sounds of the City’, but he stepped back so he could concentrate on overseeing the growth and development of the station.

Bill has had a busy career within radio and started for the BBC at Broadcasting House in London in the 1980’s. He began as an engineer installing radio studios which is where he found his passion for radio and desire to get behind the microphone - an ambition that was to take him nearly 40 years to achieve.

As well as Jorvik Radio, Bill has business interests in an online training organisation where he is the Commercial Director. Therefore, he will also be retiring from the organisation but remaining as a Non-Executive Director.

Bill Colman said, "I just wanted to say what an honour it has been to lead our wonderful radio station. I have been lucky to have worked with a very talented team and want to place on record my sincere thanks for their friendship, dedication and hard work".

Bill has plans in place for his retirement with his wife Heather who is also retiring from her role as a Project Manager with Network Rail on the same day. They have recently invested in a motorhome which they have named Evie and hope to travel around the UK and Europe as well as spend more time with their 14 grandchildren. Bill and Heather have many outside interests such as nature, photography, cycling and both want to take piano lessons.

Whilst Bill is retiring, he will maintain a keen interest in the station and hopes to appear on the airwaves from time to time.

Jorvik Radio have appointed a new Managing Director, Matt Seddon, who will take on the role on 1 July 2023. Matt has a background in business, his early career was in sales and more recently running his own marketing organisation and a property company.

Further to his impressive business credentials, Matt is a musician in his own right and has an interest in NMG Music Label which has produced a number of top 20 singles in the iTunes chart. Matt possesses a unique combination of skills and experience that make him ideally placed to become the next Managing Director of Jorvik Radio and to take the station to the next level.
