Pub given hope for future after City of York Council makes it and asset of community value

A pub that’s been closed since the pandemic hopes to re-open now it has been made an Asset of Community Value by City of York Council.

The Rose and Crow pub was a favourite of the local community up until March 2020, when it was shut due to the pandemic.

However now the pub has been made an asset of community value, it will make it easier for the building to be bought if the owners ever decide to sell it.

Ashkam Richard Parish Council nominated the old pub to be made an Asset of Community Value, to make it easier to buy if its owners Samuel Smith Old Brewery ever decided to sell it.

The parish council’s clerk Priscilla Greenwell said: “We are hopeful that if the brewery sells the property then we will be given first dibs on it.

“The Asset of Community Value gives us a certain amount of control over it, particulary to stop it being turned into houses.

“I would very much like it go back to being a pub.”
