Train services around York severely reduced due to heat wave

Check before you travel and don’t go outside unless you have to are the warnings we have been given for yesterday and today’s heatwave.

There is a very limited train service today in and out of York and no trains running on the East Coast mainline in or out of London Kings Cross.

Rail networks covering York, Selby, Manchester, Hull and the coast have issued cancellation notices and revised timetables as well as speed restrictions.

York, Selby, Tadcaster and parts of North Yorkshire are on red alert with temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees which is 18 degrees higher than the norm for July.

Remember to stay indoors as much as you can and drink plenty of water.
