Economic pressures and lack of government funding for community pharmacies have led to two pharmacies in York agreeing to merge. Citywide Health, the operator of eight pharmacies across the city, will move its Huntington GP surgery on North Lane into Parkers Pharmacy on North Moor Road.

Richard Harrison, director of CityWide Heath, explained the decision, stating: “Government funding for community pharmacies has been frozen for seven years, while costs of operating the pharmacies have increased by 30 per cent.”
