The City of York Council has made the decision that the hand-painted sign on the building of the Old York Tea Room has to go.

The City of York Council has made the decision that the hand-painted sign on the building of the Old York Tea Room has to go. The Old York Tea Room opened back in February in Our Lady's Row in Goodramgate and is run by Tony and Thomas Vickers.

However, the hand-painted sign on the building has caused quite a row and now the City of York Council has denied retrospective planning application.

The business said on social media that they are shocked and believe the council has made the wrong decision. Becky Eades the council's head of planning and development services said that the sign detracts from the building's exceptionally fine architectural and historic character.
