York College will close on Monday as pay offer leaves staff "with no option" but to strike.
York College is set to be affected by strike action starting today. Members of the University and College Union are set to walk out after rejecting a pay rise of 2.5%.
University and College Union members will strike from 8am to 10am today and are also scheduled to do the same this Friday.
A spokesperson for the Union has said that they feel that they have no alternate option and that the cost of living crisis means that a 2.5% pay rise is not enough. They have also said they are willing to return to negotiations anytime.
York College principal Lee Probert told staff that due to additional FE Funding effective from this academic year, he was really optimistic that employees would be granted a 6.5% pay rise effective from the start of 2024.
