York Community Woodland has won the silver Community Woodland Award for Excellence in Forestry 2023 from the Royal Forestry Society.
The award celebrates woodland projects that benefit communities. The woodland is helping to tackle climate change, increase biodiversity and is beneficial to both the landscape and local people.
The woodland has been developed with the assistance of 400 local volunteers and 30 stakeholder groups. The Community Woodland is also contributing to York’s goal of increasing the city’s tree canopy from 10.8% to 13% by 2050.
