Yorkshire Water pays £150,000 due to Beck being polluted.

Yorkshire Water has had to pay £150,000 to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust due to Holgate Beck being polluted by sewage. The Bellhouse Way Sewage Pumping Station has an environmental permit to discharge sewage in the beck in an emergency. However they breached the permit back in April 2018 with an unauthorised sewage discharge.

“We are holding water companies to account like never before” said Martin Christmas, the agency area environment manager. The wildlife trust has also said they will use their money on environment projects such as the River Foss and Living Went.
