The closure is part of a nationwide programme affecting 300 stores, reducing their total number from 2,200 to 1,900.

Boots has closed its opticians in Parliament Street in the city centre. The closure is in addition to the Boots in Clifton, near Clifton Green which also shut up shop on the 17th of February. The closure was part of a nationwide programme affecting 300 stores, reducing their total number from 2,200 to 1,900.

The owners of the Boots Brand have confirmed however that all closures would offer an alternative store less than three miles away. The future of Boots Coney Street is also uncertain due to a major regeneration project.

A section of the building, which contains Boots at 43, Coney Street, is marked for demolition as part of the York-based Helmsley Group's proposals for Coney Street and the riverside.
