We are delighted to announce the next step in the development for the female football pyramid at York City Ladies, with the move to progress York City Ladies First Team Manager into a sporting director style role, as full Female Pathway Technical Director.

Paula Stainton, Foundation Manager and York City Ladies Chairperson, said, “One of the great things about working with Steph over the last few years has been her understanding of the bigger picture for our full pathway. She originally joined us as the Technical Director for the Regional Talent Club, and then also took on the role of York City Ladies First Team Manager leading us to promotion and providing stability in our first full season in the Womens National League.

It is this trait that we want to capitalise on further with the role of Female Pathway TD, as we now have over 200 females across our Emerging and Regional Talent Centre, and the three open age Ladies teams aswell as a plethora of coaching and support staff. This is not only intended to continue to strengthen and grow our pathways further, but provides us the opportunity to recruit a new First Team Ladies Manager to work with Steph and myself to achieve our long term goals.

I’m excited to see the applications we will receive for this role. We are looking for someone with experience, drive and empathy, for all the usual requirements of a football management position as you would expect. Experience within the female game is an absolute must aswell as upper tier football, and the ideal person will be as passionate about the role they will play as part of the MinsterBelles and achieving results off and on the pitch for the long term vision of the club, as much as the short term results.”

The Club & Role

York City Ladies FC secured their Tier 4 status in the 2021/22 season and retained their place in the 2022/23 season competing in the Women’s National League Division One North.

The Ladies First Team achievement has been part of a long term development plan since 2016, defining the team as the top of a strong female pathway for girls from age 8 upwards. The league achievement has enabled huge off-pitch growth and engagement over the last two seasons, and creation of two further open age teams - Development Team and Under 23’s, filling the gaps within the player pyramid.

The current First Team Manager’s role has been part of a wider role Technical Director role supporting and delivering the plan, whilst overseeing all staff and player development. With over 220 players now within the female pathway, we recognise that employing a dedicated First Team manager whose sole focus is on recruitment, development, welfare and competitive edge of the first team squad, is vital for the future of the club to continue to thrive.

We have a talented squad of retained players, combining experience and youth. We currently train twice a week at venues across York, and play majority of our matches at York Sport Stadium (University of York Heslington Campus) but with the capacity for a selected number of games each season at the LNER York Community Stadium (Home of York City FC Men’s Team and York RLFC).

We are an ambitious football club who recognise the importance of using our standing as advocates for female sport on and off the pitch, and wish to continue to progress up through the football pyramid by building the right Foundations to do so; with the drive to succeed and focus on standards, professionalism and culture.

We also combine this with a belief in being a community and football family, which is important to us to retain as we grow.

The First Team Manager role is a part-time, paid role. Reporting to the York City Ladies Chairperson, and Female Pathway Technical Director, and with full support from the coaching & backroom team. York City Ladies staff are employees of York City Football Club Foundation.
