A City of York Council spokesperson has said that schools can open for the start of the autumn term as usual.

The government has urged 150 schools across England that contained reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete AKA Raac to close affected buildings.

However, a City of York Council spokesperson has said that he could confirm that there were no Raac school closures in York meaning that schools can open for the start of autumn term as usual. Raac is a lightweight form of concrete used from the 1950s to the mid-1990s, but the government has now assessed it to be at risk of collapse.
