Defender Adam Crookes commits next two and half years to Minstermen after signing new contract

Defender Adam Crookes has extended his stay with York City after signing a new two and a half-year contract with the Minstermen.

The football club are pleased to announce that the 25-year-old is the latest player to commit to a longer term stay with the club, after new deals for Nathan Thomas, Dan Pybus, and Mitch Hancox have been completed in the last few weeks.

The 25-year-old left-footed centre-back, who can also operate at left-back, joined in the summer of 2022 upon his exit from Grimsby Town, where he was part of the squad that won promotion from the Vanarama National League via the play-offs.

Crookes started his career at Nottingham Forest before loan spells at Guiseley, Lincoln City and Port Vale – where he eventually signed permanently and played 58 times during his stay at Vale Park.

After an impressive competitive debut for York, starting in the defence that kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 opening day victory against Woking, Crookes faced a spell on the sidelines due to an injury.

However, the centre-back has gone from strength to strength since his recovery and has impressed under the new management team.

After signing his new deal with the club, Crookes said: “I’m pleased to commit my future to the club and excited to see where we can go from here.

“York is a great club for this level and the support has been great since I’ve been here.”

On tying down the defender to a longer contract, York City manager David Webb said: “I am delighted that Adam has decided to extend his contract at York.

“He possesses good defensive attributes and is comfortable on the ball. We are looking forward to working on Adam’s development and seeing his progression with us at York City.”
