York City have been handed a home draw against fellow National League side Altrincham in the quarter-finals of the Isuzu FA Trophy.

The Minstermen saw off playoff hopefuls Southend United on the road last Saturday, as second half goals from Fraser Kerr and Lenell John-Lewis gave City their first win in five games.

Prior to that stage, York were able to defeat lower league opposition in both Blyth Spartans and Chelmsford City at home.

For the second time this season, City hammered five past a side, in this case, it was Blyth Spartans. Manny Duku, Nathan Thomas, and John-Lewis all got on the scoresheet to ease into the Fourth Round.

Chelmsford, promotion contenders in the league below, proved a more difficult challenge, as Olly Dyson’s goal was cancelled out, and the game went the distance, to penalties. However, perfection across all five spot-kicks saw the Minstermen through, courtesy of an Ethan Ross save.

The majestic victory at Southend gives a boost for interim manager Michael Morton and his side, going into their league game away at Wealdstone on Saturday.

It will also have Wembley playing on their minds too, as a spot in the Trophy final is just a mere two wins away.

City will have to overcome the Robins first though, hosting them on Saturday 11th March at the LNER Community Stadium. Coincidentally, the same fixture will be replicated only three days later, but that being in the National League.

Altrincham are a side who York have struggled against in knockout competitions over the past few years, falling victim to defeat in the FA Cup, FA Trophy and the National League North playoffs, all in a single season (19/20).

Fans of the North Yorkshire outfit will be very much hoping that there isn’t a repeat of that in a month’s time, nor a repeat of their 2-1 defeat at Alty earlier in the season, one which saw popular manager John Askey sacked.

As a result of York City’s progression in the non-league competition, their originally scheduled league match at home to Scunthorpe United on 11th March will be rescheduled in due course.

Here is the FA Trophy quarter-final draw in full:

1 Gateshead vs Farsley Celtic

2 Maidstone United vs Barnet

3 York City vs Altrincham

4 Aldershot Town vs Halifax Town
